Organization of the shed in small groups for the management of lambing

French tips and tricks

A grouping of the parturitions (by synchronization or ram effect) requires an organization related to a number of parturition sometimes high in a short period of time. During these periods, natural behaviors can be a problem with, among other things, "thieving" ewes who, at any price, are looking for a new-born lamb to take to a freshly lambed ewe. In addition, the high prolificacy of certain breeds generates a high number of lambs and therefore as much risk of mixing litters or lambs wandering. Using a stage ultrasound to identify the ewes to be lambed for each period, it is possible to arrange lambing in small batches of 10 to 15 ewes within which a few individual pens can be installed.
