Body condition scoring ewes
• Body condition score (BCS) is measured scale of 1 to 5
• Target 3.5 at mating
• One unit of BCS is equivalent to approximately 12 kg body weight
• One unit change in BCS increases the number of lambs reared by 0.1/ewe joined
• Measured by hand along the ewes back (see diagrams)
• Assess the condition along the spine and transverse processes
